Thursday, April 23 - Final Thursday night workout for 2015

Wednesday, April 29 - Route #5 and East Nasty night at the Basement East

There is a new live music venue in East Nashville.  It’s called the Basement East or more affectionately “ the Beast “.  The Beast will be opening it’s doors in late April and will have their first “ new faces “ night on Wednesday April, 29th.   Mike Grimes the owner of Grimey’s records and the original basement off of 8th avenue in Nashville is allowing East Nasty to take over the that opening night.  The event will start at 8:00 and there will be drink specials for all East Nasties. Here is the cool part: Grimey wants all the musical artist that perform that night to be East Nasties or at least have some East Nasty roots. He is ideally looking for 8 artist or groups to perform a 15 – 20 minute set. Grimey will handle all the logistics and who is performing when.

The night will also be hosted by our very own Drew Jones who is no stranger to a microphone.

Whether you are a solo artist, in a band, brand new to the music scene or been around for a while – we need and would love to see you on stage performing.  It should be a great night to check out some of our nasties on stage showing off their musical talent.

Please spread the word and let’s fill the first new faces night on the east side with all East Nasties.

If you would like to perform that night, please email Mike Grimes directly at: Mike@slowbar.com

Wednesday, April 15: Calling All Musicians!

If you are a musician, know a musician or just like music, take a moment to read below... But first, this week's run: Route #3

6 p.m. (or 6 a.m.) at the corner of 11th and Holly in East Nashville.

Did you know that we have a group that meets at 6 a.m.?   This is a great option for people who have trouble running in the afternoon.

Also this week is a Mizuno wear test.   It is by far the best way to try out a new brand.  Stop by Nashville Running Company at 5 p.m., wear a pair of Mizunos for the run, and bring them back afterwards.  It's that easy.

Route #3

Toyota

For those of you who are not running the half-marathon, but would love to be out there, Competitor group contacted me with a unique way to be a part of the race, and get a free entry to another RockNRoll event.

Toyota is looking for 4 individuals to run back-and-forth on a certain part of the course dressed in Toyota apparel, passing out items that will help participants be refreshed. They might be handing out GU, Gatorade, wipes, water, etc. They might also carry a mister like the attached to spray on runners. We are still building out the whole idea but are looking for volunteers. We will incentivize these volunteers with a free entry into a future rock 'n’ roll race (Las Vegas excluded) and we will also incentivize them with something from Toyota yet to be determined.

If this piques your interest, email Catharine Ryun at cryun@competitorgroup.com.

USED SHOES NEEDED!

EN needs your gently used running shoes and we need them ASAP. Please bring your WASHED shoes and place them in designated bins before this Wednesday nights run. (Please no trail shoes or shoes that have holes or heavy damage to the soles.). These shoes will be used by local middle and high school runners, and while anything we give them will be appreciated, we want their running careers to start off injury free and with excitement! If you're not yet ready to give up a pair of shoes, no worries, we will collect again next month before the Couch to 5k program. (Shoes sizes especially needed: W5.5, W8, W8.5, M8-M14). Thanks! And FYI, as a club, we have successfully given away more than 500 shoes over the years and over 60YTD already! Great job Nasties!

Wednesday, April 8.

We've got some great stuff this week, so please take a moment to read about all 4 things... First:   Route #2

Wednesday @ 6 p.m. at the corner of 11th and Holly in East Nashville.

Below is our new and improved Route #2.

round the bird

For you old timers, below is our old route #2:

Run #2

Not much different, but we use the new greenway, and we run around the bird instead of around the lake.

Second:  Thursday & Saturday

We're getting close to race day.   There are two more Thursday workouts, and two more Saturday runs.  Thursday 6 p.m. at the corner of 11th and Holly.   This Saturday we will be running Bongo to Bongo.  So plan on meeting at Bongo East at 8 a.m.

Third: Speaking of marathons....

If you have never been to the Nashville Film Festival, you should go because it brings in some really good movies.   Specifically this year, there is a documentary about a trail race in Tennessee.   The film is called The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats its Young.   The race is virtually undo-able, (only 10 people have ever completed the full distance), but it is epic.   (Here is a link to the trailer...)   The movie is showing on Sunday, April 19 @ 4:15, and Wednesday, April 22 @ 4:30.   Grab some friends and check it out!

Fourth: The Party

Mark your calendars for April 25.  That morning is Country Music Marathon, which should be a blast.  That night is our annual post-half marathon party!   More details coming soon, but this is a great time to celebrate.   Whether you ran the half, the full, or neither, plan on joining us that evening.

After the run, head down to NRC for our monthly pint night.

Thursday Workout

The Thursday workout is on.  6 p.m. at the corner of 11th and Holly.

Saturday Long Run

Wednesday, March 25: The Nasty

The Nasty This week is our signature route, The Nasty.   It's about 6 miles and features several hills.

6 p.m. at the corner of 11th and Holly.

The Nasty

Being Good Neighbors

Always remember, running with 200 people is different than running by yourself.  Run on sidewalks when they are available, and never run more than 2 abreast.   Understand that whatever you do, the 20 people behind you are probably going to follow your lead.   Meaning don't take any chances.  For example, right after the 2 mile mark on tonight's run, you need to cross Eastland to run on the sidewalk.  Be very careful when making this crossing!

Thursday Night Workout

If you are looking to improve your fitness and your running knowledge, Thursday nights are for you.  Meet at the corner of 11th and Holly at 6 p.m. for a structured track workout.  If you have never done intervals on the track - they are the final step for maximizing fitness.   If you consider aerobic running as the "cake"  (i.e. long runs, tempo runs, etc...), fast intervals on the track are the icing.   But what makes cake good??  The icing!    The point of that terrible analogy is that fast interval running should be done in limited amounts - but they yield impressive gains in fitness.

Saturday Long Run

If you are running the half marathon, the next two Saturdays are key.  This week we are running either 14 or 16 miles, and next week we are doing a long run that gets progressively faster.   Also, Saturday will also be our final time meeting at LP field and running the race course.     Please join us!   8 a.m. for half marathoners, 7:30 a.m. for full marathoners.

Wednesday March 18 - Pint Night + Mizuno

Route #11: 6 p.m. at the corner of 11th and Holly in East Nashville Wednesday starting at 5:00 - Mizuno Wear Test   By far the best way to try a new pair of shoes: actually take them out for a run.  This week, you can swing by NRC as early as 5:00 to try on a pair of Mizunos for the run.

Route #11: Churches

6 p.m. Route #11.

After the run head down to NRC for our monthly pint night!

Thursday March 19: Track Workouts Begin...

Our Thursday night workouts move from the hills to the track.  If your running has gotten off schedule because of the rough weather - come on back and join us.   For the next 4 weeks we will run over to the East High track intervals.   This week we will run 6 - 800 meter repeats at our 5k pace.  Intervals are a great way to quickly increase your fitness - but they are tough.  That is why it is best to do them in a group setting.  So join us at 6 p.m. at the corner of 11th and Holly on Thursday.

Saturday

We have two more weeks on the half-marathon/marathon course.   Join us this Saturday as we run 8 miles at our goal pace. (The total distance will be between 10 and 11 miles as there will be a warm-up and cool-down.)

Wednesday RunsMark
Thursday 3/12 & Saturday 3/14

Thursday night workout is on! Come join us tonight, 6p.m. at 11th and Holly for a structured hill workout.

Saturday Half Marathon

Side Note: Saturday is pi day.  Not just that, but it is the pi day of the century (3.1415).  So do something fun involving circles...

If you are running the half marathon this year (or just looking for a group long run) you should join us on Saturday.  We will be running on the half-marathon course, in fact the advanced group will run the entire 13.1 miles.   Everyone is welcome.  We meet at the base of the pedestrian bridge on the LP field side at 8 a.m.

Wednesday, March 11: New Route, Volunteer & Thursday workout is on!

New Route: The Electric Slide For various reasons, the "Shelby Hills" route has been scrapped.   Which is a bummer, but exciting because we get to create a new route #10.  When we were mapping the replacement route, we wanted to: (1) still run through the Shelby Hills neighborhood, and (2) highlight the "hills" part of that neighborhood.   So ....  Introducing "The Electric Slide":

Route #10: The Electric Slide

Here are a couple of quick notes:  (1) when you are running up the hill out of Shelby Park, you have to make a hard left hand turn halfway up the hill (around the 1.75 mile mark).  (2) We run all the way down Electric Avenue until it ends.  (3) When you turn left from Sevier onto 14th, cross the road and run on the right side of 14th.   (4) When you turn right on Lenore, remember that this was Duane's idea.

IMPORTANT:

Even if you are a long time East Nasty take a moment to look over the map, because we've really never run through this part of East Nashville before.   (You can even print it off it you are prone to getting lost...)

Where: The corner of 11th and Holly in East Nashville

When: 6 p.m. on Wednesday

Volunteering

Want to give back?  Want to help others to achieve their goal?  Want $15 off a Team Magic triathlon, duathlon, or half marathon? All you have to do is volunteer on March 22nd at East Nasty’s water station from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Music City Half Marathon and 10k! The race starts at Public Square Park and will be a mostly flat course excluding the first and last mile. Join us for a morning of fun giving back to our sport. If you’re ready to commit- sign up to volunteer here: http://team-magic.com/volunteers/sign-up. In the notes section, please state that you are an East Nasty volunteer- so we can all be placed at the same water station!  Beth McCaskill is leading this effort for us, so if you have any questions, e-mail her at BMcCaskill@bassberry.com.
Thursday workout is on!
Come join us at 6p.m. at the corner of 11th and Holly to do a much needed workout after several weeks of sliding around on the ice!
Saturday Half Marathon
This Saturday our half/full training groups are going to run on the CMM course.   The advanced group is going to run the entire half-marathon.   This is a great time to learn the ups and downs of the course.  Everyone is welcome to join us so spread the word!   We meet at 8 a.m. at the base of the pedestrian bridge on the LP field side of the river.

Wednesday, March 3: Icepocolypse Part 2 ?

For years, East Nasty Wednesday nights seemed blessed.   For example it would be pouring rain at 5:59, and then when 6:10 rolled around the skies would clear and we would have a beautiful run.   This winter has changed all that!   After a great day on Tuesday, it looks like another snowy night tonight.   But....we're still on!  In fact, the Mizuno rep will be on hand if you want to try a pair of shoes for the run tonight.   Show up at Nashville Running Company at 5 p.m. and you can take a pair out for a spinUpdate:   The Mizuno wear test and pint night has been rescheduled for two weeks from now.  Wednesday 6p.m. at the corner of 11th and Holly.

Route #9: LP Field

Run #9 LP Field

Pint Night Rescheduled!

One of the best parts of East Nasty is the after run hang.   Many of the local establishments have Wednesday night specials and lots of folks bring a change of clothes (or not) and meet friends out for a drink or some food.   (If this has not been part of your Wednesday routine, I encourage you to start taking part!)   Nashville Running Company has been kind enough to host a pint night the first Wednesday of each month...which is today.   Well, because the weather looks very iffy - this month's pint night is going to happen next week in two weeks.

Thursday Night Workouts

6p.m. at the corner of 11th and Holly on Thursday.  Free Running Workouts!

Stay tuned for an announcement about the Thursday night workout.    We'll make a decision tomorrow based on the conditions.

Saturday Half/Full Training

This weekend we will begin to run on the half/full marathon course.   We will be meeting in East Park by the community center.  (Normally we would meet at LP field but there is a race there this Saturday.)    Expect an email if you are part of the group - if not, show up at the East Park community center at 8 a.m. Everyone is welcome to join in!
