2024 Potato to Tomato 5k Training

8 Week Training Program, June 15th through August 10th

We at East Nasty know that if you are not a runner it can be hard to get started.

It is possible to go from a non-runner to running a 5K in 8 week's time. Each summer, we conduct a FREE couch-to-5k training program. The “Potato to Tomato” is an eight-week program designed to prepare anyone to run the YMCA East Nashville Tomato 5K race on August 10th. We especially hope those of you who have never run before, or are coming off a long hiatus join us!

To join our training, please register so you receive all of the important details for our training program. You do not have to attend every training run to participate. We will provide the training plan ahead of time so that if you miss a training run, you can make it up on your own (and missing a run here and there won’t end your training).

Who can join

Anyone! This program is designed to help those who have yet to find the motivation to commit to a training program. If you are currently a runner, you are welcome to join us, but be sure to bring a friend who is not a runner!

Accomplished runners: If you are looking for a group to run with, join the regular East Nasty run every Wednesday at at 6pm.

WE NEED COACHES! This program does not work without the help of our amazing coaches. Be a Coach

When and where

From June 15 through August 12, 2024 we meet three times a week for training: Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6pm, and Saturday mornings at 7am. Most of the time we will meet in Shelby Park near the Nature Center, but occasionally other locations.

You DO NOT have to attend every training run! We encourage you to complete missed runs on your own, but it is ok to miss a few runs!

COST

The training is FREE, a gift from East Nasty to our community!

Note: there is an entry fee for the East Nashville Tomato 5K race (we have a discount code for our participants). IF the cost of the race entry is a financial burden, please let us know. We can connect you with resources at the YMCA to help!

The Program

During the course of 24 workouts, participants will progress from walk/runs to run/walks to steady running. Most workouts will only last between 30 and 45 minutes and we will celebrate our success by running the East Nashville Tomato 5K race on Saturday, August 10th ...without walking!
