Wednesday 8-12-09

First things first, thanks to everyone who ran the Tomato Fest 5k; it was a great success, and East Nasty was well represented!  For those of you who stayed for the the festival - you know that it was fantastic.  I think that it is going to become on of the premier festivals of Nashville.  (I enjoy neighborhood festivals so much more than Centennial Park festivals...) Here are the official results for the run.

Wednesday's run is Run #4.  This 4.3 mile run run takes us back through Shelby Park.  (Check out the link at the bottom of the blog.)

Where:  11th and Holly, East Nashville

When: 6:00 p.m.

What: A social run, with a visit to the pub* post-jog!

* 3 Crow Bar purchased an igloo cooler specifically for the East Nasty runners! (Very cool.)   So grab your post-run beer from one of the servers but get your water from the cooler.

See you tomorrow!

Tomato Fest 5k

Tomato Festival Run Through As all of you should know, the Tomato Fest 5k is quickly approaching; in fact, it is this Saturday!   Since this is basically our home meet, the East Nasties need to come out in full force.   My goal is to have 50 East Nasties in full regalia at the race!  Here is the link to register at active.

In order to prepare for the race (we must defend our home turf), we are going to run the course this week.  The race starts and finishes at the corner of Woodland and 11th, and it is a little bit different than last year, so take a moment to look over the course.

New People:

If you are new to the East Nasties, show up every Wednesday night at the corner of 11th and Holly in East Nashville at 6:00 for a great run with a fun group of folks.  Don't forget to bring a change of clothes and your ID to grab a 2-for-1 beverage at 3 Crow Bar post-run.

Tonight we are going back into Shelby Park for run #2.  Check it out at the bottom of the blog.  Note: for those of you who join us at 3Crow, which should be all of you of legal age, remember to bring your ID! Sunday - Hargrove the magnificent is in charge of this week's long run, and he has decided to join the striders for their marathon training series.  So once again the Nasties will take over the Striders.

Details: 6:00 a.m. (yes, that's 6 a.m.) from the Stone Gates at Percy Warner Park.  16 miles total, split into 12 miles (Radnor Lake and back) and 4 miles (out and back on Belle Meade blvd).

Here is a listing of all of the striders' marathon training runs.

See you tonight!

Sunday July 26 - Radnor Lake Long Run

This Sunday we will head back over to the West Side for our long run.  Margaret Jones is leading us through the Forrest Hills neighborhoods and around Radnor Lake.   We will be meeting at Percy Priest Elementary for a 7:30 a.m. starting time.  The full run is 12 miles, but it would be easy to cut it off at 8. If you are new to East Nasty, please come join us for a Wednesday night run (3-5 miles) or a Sunday morning long run (8-16 miles).   Bring your own fluids for the long runs on Sunday; there will not necessarily be anything provided.

See you tomorrow!

July 22

We are back to run #1, the figure 8. If you are new to this blog, keep reading...if not skip down to "shirts".

For you new folks reading this blog, East Nasty is a running group (sort of...) who meet on Wednesdays and Sundays.  Wednesday, we meet in East Nashville at the corner of 11th and Holly.  We rotate through 6 different runs, check them out at the bottom of this blog...this week we are back at run #1.

Sunday mornings East Nasty meets at various locations for a long run.  Check the "Sunday Morning Runs" tab for more details.  This week we will gather at Percy Priest Elementary for a 12 mile run around Radnor Lake.   Look for a blog posting on Saturday for more details...

Shirts: If you ordered a shirt, you need to pick it up ASAP.   If you have not paid for your shirt, it will go on sale to the general public after the run this Wednesday at 3 Crow.  If you have paid for your shirt, please swing by this Wednesday to pick it up!

Riverside / Sunday Switch

Wednesday 7-15-09 Run #6.  Check the link on the bottom of the page, this route takes us through Shelby Park, and down Riverside.  For a landmark, turn left off of Riverside at Dee's BBQ.

Check out the last blog entry for links to the three commercial spots featuring East Nasty and the Tomato.

Sunday Long Run

Our weekend long run has changed.  We had a ten mile run planned, but instead we are going to join the striders for the Bongo-to-Bongo run.   (The striders sponsor a series of marathon training runs every fall.  They are fully supported, and usually there is a fantastic showing.)  The Bongo-to-Bongo run starts and ends at Bongo Java East, runs across the river past the Belmont Bongo Java, and back.  The total run is 14 miles, but since it is out and back, you could turn around at any point and make it whatever length you need. Downside: the run starts at 6:30 am, ugh...

3 Crow Cooler

Many of you may have noticed the igloo cooler outside at 3 Crow Bar.  That was put there specifically for us!  Say "thanks" to your server when you see him/her, and enjoy the ice cold water!

Sunday 7-12 / Tomato Fest 5k commercials

Our Sunday Long Run will take us on some familiar streets as we start from Shelby Park, weave our way through Inglewood and Lockeland Springs, and finish in Shelby Park.  The complete run is 11 miles, but there are several places where you could shorten the run.  We will meet at 7:30 a.m. Tomato Festival 5k commercials.

Many of you were part of the Tomato Festival 5k commercial filming.  Check out these three spots!   Look for them to be on the air during July.

Steve McNair

This week our route will give the East Nasties a chance to pay their respects to Steve McNair.  Run #5 takes us down Fatherland, past the stadium and over the walking bridge, up 1st avenue and back on Woodland. Details:

Where: 11th and Holly, East Nashville

When: 6:00 p.m.

What: 4.31 mile route, optional 2-mile add-on, happy hour at 3 Crow

Speaking of 3 Crow...

Last week you may have noticed that there was an igloo cooler up at 3 Crow Bar.  That water was placed there for us.   (They were running out of pint glasses with an influx of 50 people asking for water!!!)   So be sure to get water from the cooler, and thank the staff when you have a chance.

Speaking of the 3 Crow staff, be sure to tip well.  I feel sorry for the servers who are in charge of the patio, and am pretty amazed that they can keep all the orders straight!   (Or mostly straight...)  Take it from someone who has been involved with food service, that is not an easy task.

See you tonight!

July 5th Long Run

Sunday July 5th, we will be leave the comfort and safety of the East Side, and venture to an entirely different county!   This Sunday, Amy Owsley and Jenny Dew are taking us through Crockett Park in Brentwood. The run starts at 7:30 am, and you need to meet in the parking lot between the YMCA and the library on Concord road.    One nice thing about this run is that there are several bathrooms and drinking fountains along the run; also there are many places where you could shorten the route if 11 miles is too much.

Here is the route.

Get out and try one of the 4th of July races the Saturday!

I run for the Party 5k/10k (Downtown)

Firecracker 5k (Maryland Farms)

Have a great weekend!
