PR Bandits Saturday Morning Run – Shelby Bottoms Greenway

East Nasty is partnering with the ‘PR Bandits’ again in 2017 who are hosting supported long runs on Saturday mornings. Everyone loves Shelby Bottoms so much it's easier to find a 5k here than a weekend without. Fingers crossed! With or without a race to interfere, this Saturday, July 29th, starting at the Nature Center at 6:00a, you'll have several options with the mileage of your choosing with the greenway providing an out and back run. Hydration will be provided at the start/finish but not along the route so please come prepared.

Wednesday July 26 - Hot Hot Hot

Route #6

It’s hot out. Real hot. We might see a heat index around 100° this evening. Be sure to hydrate today. We have coolers of water, but often run out during the hotter weeks. So, be sure to bring your own fluids with you to the run. Look out for each other and keep an eye open for anyone who may be struggling with the heat.

This week is Route #6: Riverside. 99% percent of the time we need you to run on the left side of the road against traffic, but on this route there is one section in Shelby Park where that changes. After passing the lake, as you are going up that hill out of Shelby Park, stay on the RIGHT side of the road. Stay alert as the hill and curve in the road make it difficult to see and be seen by cars. (This is the same hill we run DOWN after Mt Nasty on Route #12). When you reach the top, turn right and go under the train bridge, then turn left onto Riverside. Stay on the left side of Riverside in the bike lane. Remember - we share those roads with walkers, cyclists, and cars.

We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday – rain or shine. You can READ HERE for more details on how our Wednesday night runs work.

If you are a run/walker, check out our Lasty Nasty group on Facebook to see if anyone is meeting early to run/walk. Most of that group is participating in, or volunteer coaching, our P2T Couch-to-5K program. You may see them when we run through the park. We're so proud of the work they have put in the past 6 weeks!

Tomato 5K

Be sure to sign up for our ‘homecoming’ race – the YMCA Tomato 5K on August 12th. Hundreds of Nasties run this race each year and it kicks off one of the best days of the summer – the annual East Nashville Tomato Fest!

Calling for Volunteers! East Nasty Tomato Fest ‘Water Tent' Booth!

From 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday Aug 12th. East Nasty will have a booth set up right in front of 3 Crow Bar and we will be serving free water to anyone who is thirsty during the Tomato Festival. It is our way of giving back to the community as a thanks for letting us run on the neighborhood streets. We need volunteers to work in 2 hour shifts. The volunteers will be passing out water, selling shirts, refilling coolers, getting ice, and spreading the East Nasty cheer. Sign up for a shift here! Be sure to wear your East Nasty shirt. Contact Sarah Brown for more details: skbrown@gmail.com.

Wednesday July 19 - Heatin' up downtown

Route #5

This Wednesday is one of our most popular runs: Route #5: Walking Bridge. It’s always fun to run across the bridge and through downtown. We're in the thick of summer - it's hot.  We have coolers of water, but often run out during the hotter weeks. So, be sure to bring some fluids with you and hydrate before and after the run. Keep an eye on each other for anyone who may be struggling with the heat.

Tomato 5K & Fest

Be sure to sign up for our ‘homecoming’ race – the YMCA Tomato 5K on August 12th. Hundreds of Nasties run this race each year and it kicks off one of the best days of the summer - the annual East Nashville Tomato Fest! Mark it on your calendar! Once again this year we will have a booth at the fest with water and merch and we will need some volunteers. Keep an eye out for details soon.

Wednesday July 12 - Summer Shelby Sweatin'

Route #4

This week we head back into Shelby Park for Route #4: The Big Shelby Loop. 99% percent of the time we need you to run on the left side of the road against traffic, but on this route it’s safer to run on the right side on Davidson Street once you’re in the park. When you make the right turn from Davidson to head up the Sevier/Naval hill, get back over to the left side of the road. Once again we will be running near the East Nashville Farmer’s Market – so please be courteous to the adults and kids that we share the park and greenway with. Be mindful of walkers, cyclists, and cars that we share the roads with as well.

We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday – rain or shine. It's gonna be hot again this week - so be sure to bring some fluids and hydrate before and after the run.

You may see some of those new Nasties in the park during the run - be sure to give them a good shout out! We are so proud of all the hard work they have been doing over the past few weeks!

Wednesday July 5 - If it ain't rainin', it ain't trainin'

It's raining again today. But it's Pint Night! And Drew Jones is back!

Route #3

This week is Route #3: Musica. ‘Musica’ is the name of the massive sculpture art piece at the center of the music row roundabout at the far end of the route. This is an out and back route, so you can choose your milage. It’s about 4 miles if you turn around right after crossing the pedestrian bridge. It’s about 5 miles if you turn around at Cummins Station. And it’s about 6.3 if you do the whole thing. This route is a great way to see downtown, but there are lots of downtown intersections. Please be especially careful, use crosswalks, and obey traffic signals!  We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run rain or shine - and it looks like it might be rain tonight. But as our own Mr. Price is fond of saying  "If it ain't rainin', it ain't trainin!" It will just make that post-run beer at Pint Night even sweeter.  If it's storming or lightning, then use your own best judgement. If you are new or need a reminder, READ HERE for more details about how our Wednesday night runs work.

If you are a run/walker it’s not too late to join up with our free P2T Group! You can also check out our Lasty Nasty Group on Facebook to see if anyone is run/walking tonight (most of those guys are participating in or volunteering at P2T on Wednesday evenings).

Pint Night!

It’s the first Wednesday of the Month – which means it’s Pint Night at Nashville Running Company after the run! Free beer, 10% discount on everything in the store (NRC offers 10% off to East Nasties every day!), and TriggerPoint will be there to demo some new gear!

Tomato 5K

Route #2

This week we continue our 12 week cycle with Route #2: ‘Round the Bird.  We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday – rain or shine, hot or cold.  You can READ HERE for more details on how our Wednesday night runs work. Should be an absolutely gorgeous evening for a run! We will have water after the run, but be sure to bring your own as well. Our group grows in the summer and sometimes we can run low. Head over to 3 Crow for some post run hydration.

This run takes us into Shelby Park and is a figure-8 route that crosses over itself. Be sure to high five each other at the intersection! Shelby Park is our local treasure and it gets pretty busy in the summer with lots of groups and events making use of it. We will be running right past the East Nashville Farmers Market - please be extra courteous and share the roads and greenway. It is important for us to be good neighbors so we can continue to use the park. Also, our own 'Potato-to-Tomato' couch to 5k training group with be out there. If you see any of those runners, give them a big shout out! They are training hard to run their very first 5k and we are super proud of all of them! Wednesday June 21 - The Heat Is On

Can you believe we are almost halfway through 2017? Welcome to the summer quarter of East Nasty! We start our cycle of 12 runs all over again this week with Route #1. Board members leading this quarter of Wednesday nights are Duane, your favorite ginger Meg, and the one and only Drew Jones. Look for them each week making announcements and getting the run going. Our typical Middle Tennessee summer has arrived - which means you need to be aware of the heat on your runs. Be sure you are hydrating before, during, and after the run. We provide water after the run, but on really hot evenings we often run low - so it's always a good idea to bring your own.

Route #1

After crushing The Nasty last week, we will start back at the beginning of our 12 week cycle with Route #1: One Hilly 5(ish)K. (It’s actually not quite a 5K, but just 3 miles. Thus the “ish”) We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday – rain or shine. This is a great week to invite someone new! If you do, encourage them to READ HERE for info on how our Wednesday night runs work. After the run, it should be a great night to recover with a pint at 3 Crow Bar.
