So there you have it, Mr. Tomato himself! Ladies and gentlemen meet the unstoppable Mark Scrivner.
Born and raised Eldon, Missouri, Mark spent his formative years in the "Show Me State.” He attended college at Missouri State University, where he received a degree in Hospitality Administration and a minor in Business. Then in 1995, after a few years in Kansas City, he moved to Nashville to manage Houston’s restaurant on West End.
During his early career, running was never something that Mark had time for, except for maybe a solo mile here or there. In 2005, he decided to train for a half-marathon and raise money in the memory of his father. He joined a Team in Training group and raised $24,000 for the fight against cancer, which was the top amount anyone raised for the 2006 Country Music Marathon! That is seriously AWESOME!
He came to East Nasty with another ENOW, Jim “Schwany” Schwan. They were enrolled in a bootcamp class at the YMCA together, and both wanted to take their running to the next level. So they joined the running group the very next week and have never looked back. In fact, Mark says that if it was not for East Nasty he was seriously considering quitting running altogether. Instead he has improved his times each year, and just this March he set a new personal record for himself at the Tom King Half Marathon, finishing in 1:48:51. And of course the East Nasty water stop/party zone under the bridge was a big part of his success.
Mark now runs his own business, SnapShot Interactive Recruiting. He was also recently included in The Nashville Business Journal’s “Top 40 Professionals Under 40” list, which can be read here. When not running, heading the Tomato Fest 5K run, or working, he can be found hanging out with his wife and daughter in East Nashville.
Like the video said above, sign up for the East Nashville Tomato 5K. The race will be held on August 14th, is for a good cause and it is pretty much the East Nasty “Homecoming” race, so if you are reading this YOU BETTER BE THERE!
