Julie Smith

So what is a true East Nasty? Well, it is hard to tell really and it also depends on who you ask, but our new East Nasty of the Week, Julie Smith did in fact grow up less than half a mile from where we meet-up each week. So I think that makes her pretty worthy of the title.

Julie has been in the great city of Nashville her whole life. Although she ran in high school, over at Goodpasture, she did not really get the bug until 2001. All credit must be given to Heidi Huerta for getting Julie to join East Nasty. Apparently Heidi can be pretty persistent when it comes to inviting people out for a Wednesday night run, and now Julie is hooked (for life as the saying goes!)

Her two biggest accomplishments in running have been completing her first full marathon in Jacksonville, Florida in February 2009 and holding together the largest team for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Nashville. GO TEAM Myra's Milers!!!!! Julie also once ran in a half marathon in Jamaica, and she claims that the best way to finish a race is with a split open coconut and putting your feet in the ocean.

Currently she works for a company that deals electronic health records software, and in her off time she enjoys waterskiing on the lake in the summer and snow skiing in the winter. She is also helping to volunteer her time for the East Nasty “Couch to East Nashville Tomato 5K race program” for our upcoming “Homecoming” race on August 14th. Plus, she also keeps up her average of 20 miles of running a week. Translation, Julie Smith is Superwoman, just without the lasso of truth and the invisible jet.
