David Harris
Since I began writing this blog in the summer, one name that has consistently been referred for the ENOW title is David Harris.
A local Middle Tennessean, David was born in Dickson, TN, which is a small town about an hour West of Nashville. Growing up he played football and a little baseball, and when it came time for college he headed out to that great metropolis of the East, Knoxville. As a Vol, young David Harris focused his studies on accounting.
Post-graduation he moved to Nashville, where he worked as a certified public account for 13 years. In his off time, which was basically after the dreaded tax season, he liked to travel. He also likes a bit of a challenge, so one day he decided that he would climb a mountain with an experienced climbing buddy of his. And instead of taking it easy and starting small, he decided to climb Mt. Rainier, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States. He did it, and says to this day that it was the most physically challenging feat he has ever accomplished.
About ten years ago he decided to pick up running with another buddy. Although he did not warm up to the sport at first, he enjoyed being able to get outside and exercise. Early on in the foundation of East Nasty, David placed a message on the East Nashville google listserv about running, and sure enough Chuck Hargrove pounced and told him all about this new running group that was getting together just a couple of blocks from David’s house. He credits East Nasty, and the wisdom of its members, in making him a faster and even happier runner. In fact, his favorite racing experience was being a member of the East Nasty Bourbon Chase team just this last year.
David Harris is not only one of those runner’s with tons of races under his belt, check out his Athlinks page, he is also one of the friendliest East Nastys out there. That says a good amount within our little community, so I suggest if you don't know him to introduce yourself!
