Location Change for Saturday Morning's Training Run!

Part of being in a vibrant city is that there are invariably scheduling conflicts. We just found out about a charity walk taking place at Nissan Stadium Saturday morning, so we need to change our start location. We will meet at 11th and Holly on Saturday instead of at Nissan Stadium. The route will change slightly but will still cover a lot of the half marathon course. A link to the new route is below.

When:  Saturday April 7th at 8:00 am Where: 11th and Holly (affectionately known as the Nasty House) The Run: 10 Miles -  Easy Pace (both standard and advanced) Preview the Route Pace: Conversational

Thanks for your patience with these last minute changes!

April 4 - Same Pint Night, New Location!

LOTS of info this week. Make sure to read all the way through for important info...

We mentioned last week that we've made some changes to how we organize our calendar. We’re adding a bonus run during each now 13-week quarter. Sometimes it will be at the end, or beginning, of a quarter, sometimes in the middle of it for a holiday or special date - which this week is.  So, this is Wednesday is again a bonus ‘week 13’ - but of our SECOND quarter of 2018. And were going to run…

Route #9

This week is Route #9: Nissan Stadium – home to your Tennessee Titans! Please be sure to cross 10th street at the crosswalk at 10th & Fatherland. The increase in construction and parking on 10th has made visibility much more difficult – so we need you to be sure to use the crosswalk and absolutely not cross in the middle of the road. Check out the route map on Strava: https://www.strava.com/routes/8843009

We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday – rain or shine, hot or cold. You can READ HERE for more details on how our Wednesday night runs work. If you are a run/walker and/or want to get a head start, meet at 5:45pm and join our Lasty Nasty Group. Remember we share the roads with walkers, cyclists, and cars – please help us be good neighbors!

And with the new quarter, you'll see Board members and East Nasty legends Sarah Brown and Beth Meadows leading the next 13 weeks of Wednesday nights! Look for them each week making announcements and getting the run going. We will start our 12 run cycle over with Route #1 next week!

Pint Night

Why are we running this route this week? Because our friends at Nashville Running Company have moved to a new location and we're gonna run right past it - or maybe just to it, because it's the first Wednesday of the month which means . . . it's Pint Night! So, it's the perfect time to come visit the new store location at 820 Woodland Street! Same NRC, but with more bathrooms and a shower! As always, beer will be provided courtesy of Yazoo Brewing Company. Parking wise -- there's a free lot across Woodland at Eastside Station, as well as street parking along 9th.

Dream Center 5k

The West Nashville Dream Center, a ministry center committed to protecting and empowering those in our community living in distress, will have representatives at the run this week. They are hosting the Dream Center 5k on Saturday, May 12. This 5k is about walking (or running) together as a community. The race will start and end at the Dream Center in The Nations. 5 kilometers is the same distance that many of the families who use the Dream Center would have to walk or take the bus to get groceries. The West Nashville Dream Center's food ministry has a goal to help supplement groceries and meals for our neighbors on a weekly basis. They distribute nearly 2,000 pounds of perishable food from our center on a weekly basis.

Wednesday March 28 - In honor of Peter Pressman

We've made some changes to how we organize our calendar. We have 12 routes that we cycle through 4 times a year which has always left us with a month of random runs at the end of the year. Instead, we're going to tack on a bonus run during each now 13-week quarter. Sometimes it will be at the end, or beginning, of a quarter, sometimes in the middle of it for a holiday or special date. It will usually be one of our regular routes, or it may be something new. So, this is Wednesday is our bonus 'week 13' of our first quarter of 2018. And were going to run...

Route #5

One of our most popular runs: Route #5: Walking Bridge. It’s always fun to run across the bridge and through downtown. As we run through downtown, remember that you are representing our organization and that our club’s safety, reputation, and standing in the community is a responsibility you share in. That means crossing the street only in crosswalks and intersections – never in the middle of the road. That means stopping at stoplights and to slow down and use caution at intersections. We need you to be respectful and courteous to pedestrians on the sidewalks downtown, along with other runners, cyclists, and motorists that we share the road with. Thanks for doing your part!

Cup Cleaning Volunteer and Raffle

Our cup cleaning schedule and raffle will also adjust to the new 13-week schedule. We will do this quarter's raffle drawing tonight or next week. And next quarter's volunteer sign up will be online in just a couple days.

Peter Pressman

The Nashville running community lost a great champion on Sunday with the passing of Peter Pressman. As President of the Nashville Striders, Peter inspired many others to join him in using running to make a positive impact on themselves and their communities. Peter's smile and zest for life were infectious. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Our condolences go out to Ruth, the Pressman family, and all of the lives he touched personally and through the Nashville Striders. Our East Nasty run tonight will be dedicated in honor of Peter.

Read more about Peter and his legacy here.

It is on the north side of Shelby Park in South Inglewood, so give yourself a few more minutes to get there. This week’s track workout is 5 x 1000s. With warmup and cooldown, that will be about 4.25 miles. The 1000s will be run at your own 5k pace or faster.

Wednesday March 21 - Chilly and Nasty

Route #12: The Nasty

Despite what the temperature in Nashville is, yesterday was the first day of spring! This week we culminate our 12 run series with our signature run: Route #12: The Nasty! 6 miles of the worst best hills in East Nashville. You get our famous sticker when you complete the run! If you need a little shorter run, you can run ‘Nasty Lite’ – a 3.7 mile run – but, there’s no sticker reward.

We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday – rain or shine, hot or cold. If you are a run/walker and/or want to get a head start, meet at 5:30pm and join our Lasty Nasty Group. You can READ HERE for more details on how our Wednesday night runs work. Remember we share the roads with walkers, cyclists, and cars – please, stay on the sidewalks or to the far left on the road, obey traffic signals and stop signs, and cross only in marked crosswalks.

Hammer Down Race

The Hammer Down races (1K/5K,10K) will be at the run tonight with water for you at the top of Mount Nasty! They will be on hand with info and race registration for the April 7th race which is sponsored by JE Dunn Construction and benefits 'Our Kid’s'. Last year they raised and donated a $100K and have raised and plan to donate even more this year! The overall first place race awards are pretty awesome! And here's another great incentive - each registrant will be entered into a raffle for a Suite at Bridgestone Arena for the Predators game the night of the race! This suite will be stocked with drinks (beer and wine included) and food.  There will be (3) names drawn and each winner will received (4) tickets! Get more info here: https://hammerdown.racesonline.com/ and on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/hammerdownracenashville/

Our Spring 2018 race shirts, singlets, and tanks from Nike are in the works. We will have a size run for you to try on by this weekend (if not sooner) at Nashville Running Company. Wednesday March 14 - Church Run

Route #11

This week is Route #11 – The Church Run. East Nashville is one of the oldest communities in Nashville with many historic buildings dating back to the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Some of the most beautiful architecture is highlighted in the churches – and we pass around 15 of them on this route.  It’s a great week to invite new runners and beginners – because you can easily stop after just 2 miles of the first loop of the figure 8.

We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday – rain or shine, hot or cold. If you are a run/walker and want to get a head start, meet at 5:45pm and join our Lasty Nasty Group. You can READ HERE for more details on how our Wednesday night runs work. Remember we share the roads with walkers, cyclists, and cars – please, stay on the sidewalks or to the far left on the road, obey traffic signals and stop signs, and cross only in marked crosswalks. Help us be good neighbors to the community!

Half Marathon Training  - Saturday Run Location Change!

This Saturday March 17th our Half Marathon Training Run will start from Kohls in Donelson (instead of the scheduled Stones River location). Usual 8am start time. Be sure to check your email later this week for more details if you're a part of that group.

Rock n Roll Half Marathon

A rep from the Nashville Rock n Roll Half/Full Marathon will be at the run tonight - so there might be some swag or registration discounts. You never know.

Wednesday March 7 - "Some say it's mystic..."

Route #10

This week is Route #10: Electric Slide. East Nasty founder Mark Miller says: “This route is awesome. With one of the greatest hills in East Nashville!” So, you can blame him when you’re running up Lenore. You need to be extra cautious at one particular intersection. Right before the three mile mark, you turn left onto 14th from Sevier. Before you turn left onto 14th from Sevier, you need to STOP, look for traffic, then cross the street and RUN ON THE SIDEWALK on the RIGHT SIDE of 14th. BE VERY CAREFUL CROSSING 14th! For those of you who know the area, make sure you alert those around you.

We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday – rain or shine, hot or cold. You can READ HERE for more details on how our Wednesday night runs work. For safety, we ask you to wear something that creates or reflects light. If you are a run/walker and/or want to get a head start, meet at 5:45pm and join our Lasty Nasty Group. Remember we share the roads with walkers, cyclists, and cars – please help us be good neighbors!

Brooks Wear Test - Shoes and Sports Bras

Have you ever wanted to try a new brand of shoes on a full run but didn’t want to blindly buy a new pair? That’s why shoe companies will often come out and offer ‘wear tests’. This Wednesday, Brooks will be at Nashville Running Company with the Levitate and Glycerin for you to test out the during the run. They will have sports bras to wear test, too! Be sure to get there early at 5:15pm to get your size in the model that you want to try out! Wear them for the run, and then return them after the run is over while sticking around for....

Pint Night

...after the run at NRC! Along with beer, Orange Theory Fitness will be there, too, As well as Eat Well Nashville who will have protein pucks and other goodies!

Wednesday Feb 28 - End of the Shortest Month

No long run this weekend!

Our Half Marathon training group will not be meeting this Saturday. But this is not just a week off - we are encouraging everyone to race! Many of you guys may be running the Tom King Half or 5K, but whatever the distance, it doesn't matter, just get out there and test your fitness. Our next organized long run will be March 10th.

Wednesday Feb 21 - Rick, Roy, and Tom

Route #8

This week it’s back towards Shelby for Route #8: Rick’s Market. So much has changed in East Nashville over the years and this route is no exception. Rick’s Market is now actually home to Roy's Meat Service. So, you can pick up your favorite cut of meat along with the “coldest beer in town”.

And always remember that we share the roads with walkers, cyclists, and cars – please be courteous and help us be good neighbors!

Tuesday Night Workouts Continue

Our Tuesday night speed and hill workouts continue tonight. We meet every Tuesday at 6pm from now through April at the same location as our Wednesday night runs (11th and Holly). Please arrive a little early and be ready to run promptly at 6pm. There are no announcements time like Wednesdays – so don’t be late and miss the group! We will warm up together (by jogging to either Nissan stadium, a local track, or hill), perform our workout, then jog back together as a group.

Half Marathon Training Continues

This Saturday our Half Marathon Training run will be on the Harpeth River Greenway meeting at Edwin Warner Nature Center at 8am.

NRC Tom King Water Stop Volunteering

Once again Nashville Running Company is hosting a water stop for the Annual Tom King Classic Half Marathon on Saturday March 3rd! If you're not running in the race, then come help cheer on and support the half marathon runners during the race! The station is in its usual spot on Davidson near the boat ramp in Shelby Park - where you will see racers at miles 2.5 AND 10! All you need is a little spirit (and maybe the ability to hand out water). Check out the facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/410667836013335/

Wednesday Feb 14 - Short and Sweet

Route #7

This week we run Route #7: Little Hollywood. A short sweet route in case you need to get out quickly to get your romance on.

Lots of turns on this route. For everyone's safety, PLEASE always stay on the left and cross the street ONLY AT INTERSECTIONS. Don’t run in the middle of the road or cross the road before you get to an intersection! There's a brand new traffic light at Eastland and Chapel (near Rosepepper Cantina) - please obey the traffic signal and cross in the crosswalk! After the traffic signal, stay on the far left and stay single file over the bridge. Once you cross the gully, there will be a bike lane and then a sidewalk.

Call for New Board Members!

East Nasty is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization and is governed by a Board of Directors. We are a working board - the hands and feet that make everything happen (Wednesday night runs, finances, party/event planning, fundraising, social media, merch and gear, etc). Have you ever thought you could help out? Or have ideas to improve our club? Want to serve our club and community? East Nasty will soon be accepting applications for new board members! We will have an online application available soon - keep an eye out!

Wednesday Feb 7 - Porter Predicament & Pints

Route #6

This week is Route #6: Riverside. This route requires a couple of important safety notes this week.

  • First, 99% percent of the time we need you to run on the left side of the road against traffic, but on this route there is one section in Shelby Park where that changes. After passing the lake, as you are going up the hill out of Shelby Park, stay on the RIGHT side of the road. Stay alert as the hill and curve in the road make it difficult to see and be seen by cars. (This is the same hill we run DOWN after Mt Nasty on Route #12). When you reach the top, turn right and go under the train bridge, then turn left onto Riverside. Stay on the left side of Riverside in the bike lane. Remember – we share those roads with walkers, cyclists, and cars.
  • Second, and speaking of bike lanes - there is a lot of construction happening on Porter road and sections of the bike lanes on both sides are temporarily closed. PLEASE be careful, watch for traffic, and use your best judgment. Don't just dart out into traffic. You can bypass most of it if your turn right off of Porter onto Benjamin, and then left on Scott which will take you back to Eastland. Also note the new traffic light at Eastland and Chapel!

It's still dark - so keep wearing your reflective and lighted gear.

Pint Night at NRC

It's finally February - and that means Pint Night at Nashville Running Company! Come by NRC after the run for a pint of Yazoo and 10% off your in store purchase. There's also specials on $50 shoes, $75 shoes, and 50% off select apparel. Team Magic and Orange Theory Fitness will both be there as well.
