Wednesday March 8 - Climbing Lenore...

Route #10

This week we revisit one of our newer routes Route #10 – The Electric Slide. or Boogaloo. Or something like that. We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday – rain or shine. If you are a run/walker and want to get a head start, meet at 5:45pm and join the Lasty Nasties. You can READ HERE for more info on how our Wednesday night runs work. Be sure to wear something that creates or reflects light. Just one more week until Daylight Savings Time...

This route is awesome (with one of the greatest hills in East Nashville) but you need to be extra cautious at one particular intersection. Right before the three mile mark, you turn left onto 14th from Sevier. Before you turn left onto 14th from Sevier, you need to STOP, look for traffic, then cross the street and RUN ON THE SIDEWALK on the RIGHT SIDE of 14th. BE VERY CAREFUL CROSSING 14th! For those of you who know the area, make sure you alert those around you.

Chattanooga & Tom King

Congrats to all our Nasties that crushed the Chattanooga Marathon and the Tom King Half and 5K this past weekend! Our Half and Full Marathon Training resumes this Saturday at 8am at Nissan Stadium as we begin to train on the Rock n Roll course...

Volunteer Sign Up Night!

Anyone that has come out to one of our Wednesday night runs or Saturday training groups knows that East Nasty is more than just a running group. East Nasty is a COMMUNITY. We are training buddies, race supporters, good friends, and family. We love our neighborhood and we exist to make East Nashville a great place to live and run, and to make running accessible to everyone. Everything East Nasty does, from organizing weekly runs to offering training programs to the community, is FREE. Our operations are 100% volunteer-driven by East Nasties that want to help.

Do you want to volunteer but just don’t know how to get involved? Now is your chance!

After this Wednesday's run please plan to stick around for a 'volunteer fair' and find out all the ways you can get involved with East Nasty. Our board members will be on-hand to answer questions and talk about new and exciting ideas for 2017! You will have an opportunity to get info, sign-up, and let us know how you want to help!

When you return after the run to the yellow house, please head on over right next door to the YCAP building (it looks like a church). There will be East Nasties directing you! See ya there! ENFL!

Wednesday Feb 15 - Head for the Hollywood Hills

en_mapbanner_route_07

Route #7

This week's Wednesday run is through one of East Nashville’s most eclectic areas: Route #7 – Little Hollywood. The unique spanish architecture makes this area unlike anything else in East Nashville. Read about it’s history and join us for a run this Wednesday. Lots of turns on this route. For everyones safety, PLEASE always stay on the left and cross the street ONLY AT INTERSECTIONS – never in the middle of the road! Note: when you are running on Eastland, stay on the far left and stay single file over the bridge. Once you cross the gully, there will be a bike lane and then a sidewalk.

We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday – rain or shine, sweltering heat or bitter cold. If you are a run/walker and want to get a head start, meet at 5:45pm and join the Lasty Nasties. You can READ HERE for more info on how our Wednesday night runs work. As always, be sure to wear your reflective and/or lighted gear.

Tuesday Night Workouts Continue

Our Tuesday night speed and hill workouts continue tonight. We meet every Tuesday at 6pm from now through April at the same location as our Wednesday night runs (11th and Holly). Please arrive a little early and be ready to run promptly at 6pm. NOTE: there will not be an announcements time like Wednesdays – so don’t be late and miss the group! We will warm up together (by jogging to either Nissan stadium, a local track, or hill), perform our workout, then jog back together as a group.

Wednesday Feb 8 - Hills, speed, a road trip, and more...

New Route #6

Route #6

This week is Route #6 – Riverside. Looks like things might be wet over the next few days and maybe bit warm for February - so, dress appropriately and be sure to wear your reflective and/or lighted gear.

A couple of important safety notes for this route. After passing the lake, as you are going up that hill out of Shelby Park , stay on the RIGHT side of the road. Stay alert as the hill and curve in the road make it difficult to see and be seen by cars. (This is the same hill we run DOWN after Mt Nasty on Route #12). When you reach the top, turn right and go under the train bridge, then turn left onto Riverside. Stay on the left side of Riverside in the bike lane.

Tuesday Night Workouts

Our  Tuesday night speed workouts begin TONIGHT! We will meet every Tuesday at 6pm from now through April at the same location as our Wednesday night runs (11th and Holly). Please arrive a little early and be ready to run promptly at 6pm. NOTE: there will not be an announcements time like Wednesdays - so don't be late and miss the group! We will warm up together (by jogging to either Nissan stadium, a local track, or hill), perform our workout, then jog back together as a group. There is no better way to improve your running fitness than by doing workouts and these runs will focus on education with an aim to improve your running IQ.  You’ll learn about tempo runs, hills repeats and track work. We’ll do some workouts by distance, some by time and some by “feel”.  This is also a great way to get to know some new folks in a smaller setting. Bree Roy will be heading these up! See you there!

Route #4

This week we head back into Shelby Park for Route #4: The Big Shelby Loop.  There are a few really dark spots on this run, so please be sure to bring your reflective gear and even a headlamp.

Leadership Changes

The East Nasty Board met this past weekend and elected new officers. First, we want to tell you that our Founder, Mark Miller, has decided to step down from his role as President. Keeping our club and non-profit running is a lot of work and Mark has given some 12 years of his time, energy, and heart to us and all of you to build this great organization. With a third child on the way and other life responsibilities mounting, Mark says that the time is right for him to take a step back. While we will miss his day to day leadership, our organization is set up pretty strong and we will keep doing what we do: making East Nashville a great place to live and run, and making running accessible to everyone in our community. We are incredibly grateful to Mark and are working on plans to honor him in the near future. Stay tuned.

So, for 2017, your new President is Jeremy Taylor! Many of you know Jeremy from his leadership of our Couch-to-5K program. The rest of the Board remains in place with a few new officer roles. See our About page for details. But, no matter who is 'in charge', East Nasty has always been a volunteer run organization - we need you! Save the date Wednesday February 22nd - we're planning a special event that night immediately following the run that we would like everyone to attend. We will have more details soon.

We hope to see you at the run tonight. Just about everyone on the Board will be there. Come say hello!

Wednesday Jan 18 - Musica Out and Back

en_mapbanner_route_03

Route #3

This week is Route #3: Musica. 'Musica' is the name of the massive sculpture art piece at the center of the music row roundabout at the far end of the route. This is an out and back route, so you can choose your milage. It’s about 4 miles if you turn around right after crossing the pedestrian bridge. It’s about 5 miles if you turn around at Cummins Station. And it’s about 6.3 if you do the whole thing. This route is a great way to see downtown, but there are lots of downtown intersections. Please be careful, use crosswalks, and obey traffic signals! We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. If you are a run/walker and want to get a head start, meet at 5:30pm and join the Lasty Nasties. It’s still dark out for the run so please be sure to wear something that creates or reflects light! READ HERE for more info on how our Wednesday night runs work.

Wednesday Jan 11 - That Awkward Moment...

round the bird

Route #2

This week we continue our 12 week cycle with Route #2: 'Round the Bird.  Also known as 'The Awkward Moment' because this is a figure-8 route that crosses over itself. Be sure to high five each other as you cross! We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. We run every Wednesday - rain or shine, sweltering heat or bitter cold. If you are a run/walker and want to get a head start, meet at 5:45pm and join the Lasty Nasties. It's still dark out for the run so please be sure to wear something that creates or reflects light! READ HERE for more info on how our Wednesday night runs work.

Here’s how it works: 1) Sign up on the Google doc. 2) Take the cups home. 3) Wash them. 4) Post a pic on social media showing you washed them and tag our Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. 5) Bring the cups back to the run the next week.

Thus the "ish") We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm. Meet at 5:45pm and join the Lasty Nasties if you are a run/walker and want to get a head start. This is a great week to invite someone new! If you do, remind them to please be sure to wear something that creates or reflects light! Running Stores

Need to gear up before training starts? Nashville is home to some great specialty running stores!

Nashville Running Company is right around the corner from our meeting spot. Each first Wednesday of the month they host a Pint Night just for East Nasty immediately after the run - that's THIS Wednesday! NRC always offers an everyday 10% discount for East Nasty runners.

Fleet Feet Sports has been a staple in the Nashville running community for years. THIS Thursday, January 5th, come by Fleet Feet Sports Green Hills between 6pm and 8pm to gear up for marathon and half marathon training this spring  - and 20% of all sales during that time period will be donated back to East Nasty!

All New Cup Cleaning - with PRIZES!

We've got a few new things coming your way in 2017. The first is changing up the cup cleaning volunteering. In short, we're adding an incentive. A big one. The first year that East Nasty existed we probably went through 150+ paper cups every week. So, we decided that we would purchase plastic cups to reduce the amount of trash that we were producing. The only challenge is that we have to wash them every week. So we need volunteers to wash the cups. We've been doing it this way for years.

Here's the new twist for 2017: Everyone that signs up for a week to clean the cups (and posts a photo proving they washed them) will be entered to win $100 gift card to NRC. The more you volunteer, the more chances you get to win. We will draw a winner at the end of every quarter - so you have a 1-in-12 chance to win if you volunteer, a 2-in-12 chance if you volunteer twice, etc. Big thanks to Schaffer Law Firm for sponsoring this program!

Here's how it works: 1) Sign up on the Google doc. 2) Take the cups home. 3) Wash them. 4) Post a pic on social media showing you washed them and tag our Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. 5) Bring the cups back to the run the next week.

2017 Half/Full Marathon Training

Our 2017 Half and Full Marathon Training begins NEXT weekend! Be sure to register and then join us for the first long run on January 7th at 8am. Our 16 week training program consists of: long runs on Saturday mornings led by volunteer pace group leaders, East Nasty Wednesday night runs, and Tuesday evening speed/hill workouts. Check out our website for lots more details. And click here to find the 2017 Training Plan.

We're still looking one more volunteer pace leader for our 2017 Half Marathon Training. Specifically, we need one more pace leader for a finish time of 2:30. Leading a training group is a great way to give back, a lot of fun – and a commitment. As a thank you, we will reimburse you for your race entry fee. Interested? Email our Half Marathon Training Coordinator David Harris at David@eastnastyforlife.com for more specifics.
