Route #10

This is our newest route, and there is one spot where you need to be especially cautious.  Right before the 3 mile mark, you take a left turn onto 14th from Sevier.   When you make that turn, you need to cross over 14th and run on the sidewalk, which is on the right side of the road.   Then you'll turn right on Lenore, and go up a small hill...

Potato to Tomato 2016

Hey East Nasties!
June is just around the corner you know what that means?
Our infamous FREE and fabulous Potato to Tomato Couch to 5K program begins soon!  You know all those friends who say, “I could never run”? This is your chance to prove them wrong.
The informational meeting about our Potato to Tomato program will be Thursday June 9th at 6pm at the Margaret Maddox YMCA.  Encourage your family and friends to come to hear more about the program that would change the way they think about what is possible about them and running.  The graduation run will be on August 13th at the East Nashville Tomato 5k.
In addition to spreading the news about the Potato to Tomato Couch to 5K program, you can also sign up to coach!  We only have enough room for a certain number of coaches, so act now if you are interested. Click here to sign up to coach

I think all of us have at least one or two family or friends who would enjoy this program, if you want more information to share, click here for more information and how to register for the program.

Altra Demo Run

There is a lot of new technology in running shoes.  This is great, but it makes it a bit of a risk to try a pair of shoes that has a totally different feel than what you are used to.  That is what is so great about demo runs.   You get to actually take a pair of shoes out for a run, before you decide if they are worth spending $100+  If you are interested in trying on a pair of Altra's, swing by NRC as early as 5:15 - throw on a pair and enjoy the run!

Route #7: Little Hollywood

Rest and Recover... A lot of us just raced the full or half marathon, and now its time to take a well needed rest.   But resting doesn't mean doing nothing.  In fact, unless you have an injury, active recovery is better than passive recovery.   (Active recovery = super easy exercise i.e. 60 - 70% of your max heart rate, light cross training, etc...)    Also, a good rule of thumb is to take 1 recovery day for every 2 km of racing.   For half marathoners, that means a good 10 days of easy exercise, for marathoners its more like 3 weeks.

Try Yoga...

Want to try something different?   Shakti Yoga has a promo for East Nasty runners this week.   $5 drop-in classes (normally $18) through Sunday 5/8. Use code EASTNASTY as promo code when purchasing a drop in class. Lauren Farina and Kelly Carter, the owners of the studio, run with us and want to share. www.shaktiyoganashville.com

April 27 - Race Week

Tapering... For those of you who are racing on Saturday, here are my words of advice:  there is nothing you can do between now and then to get faster - there are lots of things that you can do to make yourself slower.   Meaning?   It takes your body 7 to 10 days to gain any benefits from a hard workout.  So if you feel like you "missed" too many runs, don't try to make them up this week.  You'll experience all the fatigue that comes with a workout but get none of the benefits by Saturday's race.   Bottom line:  no hard running, don't add anything new ("hey I feel like stretching...") rest, relax and pay attention to your hydration and nutrition.

Post race celebration...

I love Saturday races (as opposed to Sunday races…)   because Saturday races allow you to fully embrace the post-race celebration.   On April 30, we invite you to fully embrace our post-race celebration (whether you run or not…)

What: East Nasty Post-Rock n’ Roll Race Celebration (If you are a Facebook person click here...)

Who: Everyone  – even if you didn’t run.

Where: The Pavilion East

When: Saturday, April 30.  6:00 – 10:00 pm

Why: Local Taco, Yazoo, Friends and Drew Jones’ playlist…

Put it on your calendar!   And please consider a $10 donation to help us offset some of the costs.
