East Nasty of the Week: Roy Agee

Last Wednesday night I received several pleas from the East Nasty elite on a very special East Nasty of the Week. They all told a similar story about a man who inspired them, someone who they saw as a hero, and a person that they all knew was worthy of this special recognition. That person is Roy Agee!!!

Roy was born and raised in Mt. Juliet, TN and went to Vanderbilt University where he majored in Trombone performance. In fact, it was Roy’s musical ability that led him to meet his wife Kristie. She was at a Salsa dancing club, and guess who just happened to be a prominent member of the house band??? Anyways, Roy has always been an entertainer. He was playing the banjo by 12, and singing into a shampoo bottle as a microphone even before that.

Roy came to East Nasty through his friend Kristine Mylls, who told Roy about our first Couch to 5K program this last summer. Well, he was a champion both during the program and during the Tomato 5K race. As a result of the program, and our little running group in general, Roy fell in love with running.

Last week Roy set out for a 10 mile run, as part of his training in hopes to run the Country Music Half Marathon this year. Unfortunately Roy collapsed during the run and suffered a heart attack. A piece of plaque broke off inside his right coronary artery and caused a blood clot to form around it. The amazing paramedics and doctors at Centennial cleared his artery within 26 minutes!  Go ahead and watch the story at this link:

Now his heart has retained 100% of its function. Also, just a little FYI, Roy did not know that we had elected him the new East Nasty of the Week, and so thanks goes out to his wife who helped give me most of the information for this post. She also wanted to say for everyone out there reading this to get check-ups regularly and be sure to know your cholesterol/ triglycerides/ blood pressure numbers. Knowing this information will help save your life!

Finally, today we are debuting our first ever East Nasty commercial, which features ROY! I hope you enjoy watching it, and be sure to add to the comments section below your own well wishes for Roy Agee.
