Nashville has a big 1/2 marathon in April, and every year East Nasty trains together. In fact, training for the 1/2 marathon was how East Nasty began. The runs are free and open to anyone. Nothing to sign up or list to get on – just show up.  (There is also a group training for the full marathon, if this is you, check out the details below.)

Beginning Sunday January 8, and continuing through April, our training program consists of: long runs on Sunday mornings, East Nasty Wednesday night runs, and Thursday evening workouts. (In reality, three runs a week is not enough; the more mileage the better. So we can help you out with three runs a week, the others are on your own!) The 2012 Country Music Marathon is set for April 28, so that gives us 16 weeks of training.

Sunday Mornings: These long runs slowly build distance so that they are appropriate for novice to advanced runners. We will start at Shelby Park for the first 4 weeks and then move to three different locations later in the program: Percy Warner Park, Centennial Park and Bongo Java East.  Beginning Sunday January 8, we will meet every Sunday at 9 a.m. until it gets warm (probably in March) and then we’ll move it to 8 a.m. Check the blog weekly for changes/updates/etc.

Sunday Morning Brunch: About every other week during 1/2 Mararthon Training season we host a pot-luck brunch after the Sunday morning run. Everyone is invited and you are encouraged to bring something to share. Details can be found here: 2012 Brunch Info

Wednesday Night Runs.  Our regular Wednesday Night Run. 6pm at 11th & Holly.

Thursday Night Workouts: These structured workouts will consist of hills, tempo runs and intervals. Similar to Wednesday, we will be meeting at 11th and Holly at 6p.m.  This is a great way to improve your fitness and running IQ through structured workouts.  Amanda Tungett will be leading these Thursday evening workouts. Contact her for more info at atungett@ymcamidtn.org

Full Marathon Training

If you’re looking to do the full marathon, Daniel Hudgins will be leading longer training runs that will start earlier on Sunday mornings and then meet up with the 1/2 marathon group for additional mileage. Contact Daniel at hudginsdj@gmail.com for more details.

  1. Hey everyone, I’m new to East Nasty this year. I’m a freelance writer and working on a story for Women’s Running magazine. I need to interview a female runner who frequently runs with her dog. Any takers? You can email me at jenchesak@me.com.
    Thanks!
